A fabulous 9.8 miles today over part of the South West Coast Path. I started from Lime Kiln car park taking the riverside path toward Otterton. At the end of this path one meets a road where turning right takes you to the footpath that leads to the cliff tops, I wanted to start further back. Continuing accros the road to rejoin the path and after another style there is a footbridge, go over that and up the steps then turn right and follow the path, it does bring you back to the road I just mentioned but at least you have walked it, it’s very nice and well paved.
There is a point on the cliff walk close to Ladram Bay where a sign gives you a choice, see below.
I chose the permissive path to Otterton (car park time on my mind) which is an easy walk. At the end of this is a lovely little honesty cafe run by Stantyway farm there, an organic farm, the flapjacks are amazing ( that’s all I bought) and as the farm seems to have many organic projects on I assume the home made things here possibly are organic as well.
Finally I just walked through Otterton and back along the river to the car. It’s worth remembering that on this walk there are hills and quite steep ones at that so always take plenty of water and have a regular rest. I walk at a fair pace so this walk for me was 9.8 miles and took just over 3.5 hours. I should add that I marched the whole path from Otterton Mill to the Lime Kiln car park as my ticket was running out so I did 2 3/4 miles in just under half an hour. This does make a nice circular walk if you have plenty of time through the day, and dinner at the mill can be a great reward, after all you can walk it off just going back to the car.
